The hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) is caused by Hantaan (HTNV) and Puumala viruses (PUUV). The present study, to investigate the single dose toxicity of the formalin inactivated HTNV-PUUV combination vaccine, was conducted to the both species of the rats (0, 0.03, 0.17, 0.83, 4.17 and 20.83 dose/§¸ body weight/day) and beagle dogs (0, 0.425, 2.125 and 10.625 dose/§¸ body weight/day) after intramuscular injection, respectively. After single injection, clinical signs and body weights were observed everyday for 14 days. All animals were alive during the experiments. The changes of body weights did not significant. In addition, no pathological changes were observed in the control or treated groups in the both species. These results suggest that LD_50 value of the tested vaccine is considered to be higher than 20.83 dose/§¸ body weight in rats and 10.625 dose/§¸ body weight in beagle dogs, respectively, in the present study.
